Introduction

My name is Christine Rodriguez, and I am passionate about language, literature, and education. I have been working in education since 2016. I am a fan of educators like Kelly Gallagher, Penny Kittle, and Ernest Morrell who apply intentional teaching and engaged, critical, and social-epistemic pedagogies. I am actively seeking an English Language Arts teaching position at the middle school or high school level.

Background

I grew up in Aurora, Colorado, but I spent several years living in the U.K. before relocating to Milford, Connecticut. New England has been my home for the last 20 years. I have two children–an adult daughter who is currently working as a NICU nurse, and a son who will be a senior in high school this year–and a fantastic husband. I am an avid reader, an amateur photographer and birder, and an enthusiastic crafter. I am actively seeking a full-time classroom position teaching English Language Arts at the middle school or high school level. I apply a social-epistemic pedagogy to my teaching with a focus on multiculturalism, active inquiry, and 21st-century skills. I believe in holistic classroom management and the importance of building relationships.

Career

Teaching is a second career for me. I have spent the last few years regularly substituting in Milford, CT, and recently completed two long-term substitute positions—one in Trumbull, CT teaching 7th-grade reading, and one 5-month position in Clinton, CT teaching 6th and 7th grade ELA. I am also completing a second Master’s degree, this time in English. I am looking for opportunities to gain experience as an educator and to continue along my new career path.

Before I decided to become a public school teacher, I was a training and communications specialist at Gartner, and before that at Unilever. During my time in those positions, I became well-acquainted with the art of e-learning and distance learning. Given the current challenges facing school districts, these skills will come in handy! I am comfortable conducting interactive webinars, creating flipped classroom experiences, and video chatting. I am proficient in the use of Google Classroom and Google Chat, Zoom, Skype, and a variety of other video conferencing applications as well as e-learning software including Adobe Captivate, Articulate, and Storyline. I enjoy integrating technology into my lessons and encourage students to explore digital options when completing assignments.
